How do forum experience points work?

I'm a bit confused by experience.

I see that you earn it for posting, and that you can donate it to others to thank them for stuff (I've done one donation of 10 XP).

I usually get one point of XP per post, but there have been a couple of times when I have earned 3 XP. I don't see that I've done anything "better" when I've posted the posts that earned me extra XP.

Is there an FAQ for XP somewhere or is a secret that we are supposed to work out for ourselves?

[b:1jk26rdy]EDIT:[/b:1jk26rdy] I got 3 XP for this [i:1jk26rdy]again[/i:1jk26rdy], and it was a really short post, so I'm just baffled. I don't see how I would ever catch up the people that post lots and lots of posts here.

The rule is simple, you earn three points for each topic you start, you earn one point for each reply that you make.
There is another little bug, this forum is second generation. Members of the first form were awarded 50 percent of their experience they earned there.

Catching up to me or Shir'le which got 100 percent of experience from first generation, after all she is High Priestess *S* will take time or a gift from above.

I am curious about whom you donated 10 points to, however that you certainly have the right to keep private.

Thanks. I suppose I would have worked that out [i:346cace9]eventually[/i:346cace9]. I did work out that editing posts gives you no XP. And I did click on Experience > Information[/url:346cace9] but everything on that page said zero XP.

I can not remember how many points I earned when this forum was running on phpBB 2, but it could not have been too much, as I only have a double-figure post count. But it looks like I only have to post 140 more posts to be promoted out of the ranks of the Travellers. I think I can manage that one day. I might even be able to get onto and stay on the front page of the memberlist[/url:346cace9], as I am on the second page right now.

I don't think I would ever catch either of you up, as I do not get here a lot.

I gave Shir'le E. Illios 10 points for fighting spammers.

I actually came back here after chasing a spammer from somewhere else. I really hate spammers.

You can have 10 points for the same reason, as I see that you got promoted into being a spam killer since I was first here. :D

Thank you for that. :)

Though, honestly, Bhaern tends to do more spammer fighting than I do (I check the moderation panel once a day or so, I think Bhaern does more often).

Love -x-x-x-

Shir'le

True. Bhaern is doing a great job protecting the forum. But then again, you set up Bhaern with the ability to fight spammers, so you have both done good. :D
