NWN2 - Mask of the Betrayer

Post by Jubilee »

This game is about to make me go postal. Right about now I want to return it. The sound is broken now for me, I have no sound effects or speech at all. And the new classes have no support in starting items, so you get two fists and a slap on the ass to fight with. Anyone else have it/have these stupid problems?

Did I mention the camera is worse? And Eilistraee still isn't availible for anyone but Drow .. ignorant fucking morons.

[i:32m6l41x]<feels bad for suggesting it now>[/i:32m6l41x] :/

Have you asked around on the official forums? Might find some help on the technical help forum for example. All I know is that I have no problems at all and am rather enjoying the game.

I think there's also a hotfix patch out there that fixes something with dialog (though they had some issue with the autopatcher deleting cd key information earlier; not sure if they fixed that yet). Thought that was for text though and not audio.

As for starter equipment; no matter what character you play you lose pretty much everything except your armor (they remove your entire inventory and your weapon slot items). And Safira has a couple of weapons in her inventory that you might use until you find something better. Might even want to try a bit of the new crafting system to boost the power of said weapon (Safira can also craft).

And safe often; Mask of the Betrayer is a bit more difficult than the NWN2 OC (I'm playing on normal and have died a number of times already, and some people playing on Hardcore seem to have serious trouble getting through the game).

It's fun though, and I quite like all the NPC companions (so much so that I installed an override that allows me to have all of them in my party so I don't have to leave one behind ;)).

And if I remember, when I get home I can edit the deities 2da file to allow for non-drow to follow Eilistraee (which you can then just drop in your override folder). That's a simple edit.

Don't give up just yet. I know it's frustrating to have problems and such, but the game is quite enjoyable when you get that fixed imho (except that the bloody over-the-shoulder camera clips through the companions following you, which is very irritating >:( ).

Colour me.... so not surprised.

Did they even fix any of the problems with the toolset that have been keeping the majority of people from doing much NWN2 modding?

This is why I never buy any computer game right when it's released, those release bugs will drive you mad.

I think it's only fair to say that, as I understand it, Jhael has managed to get things working. At least last I heard she was playing just fine.

And I gave her a modified deities file what allows Eilistraee for all races and classes (and LG alignment). :)

NwN2 is a pretty good game. The armour and weapon models are so much better than the original. We can actually wield weapons as they should be used; ie: Katanas, Longsword, Scimitars, etc are used tw-handed [i:1mnx96wa]unless[/i:1mnx96wa] you're also using a shield or off-hand weapon. The terrain is so much better looking. The controls, despite the camera wonkiness with 1.10, are so much better than nwn1. I love the quick cast menu so much, I only use slots to organise buffs by duration now. Pressing Tab, then being able to attack means a lot fewer "oopsies" with things like Knockdown, or targeted spells.

It's just a shame the multiplayer aspect is shit. I'm not even going to buy MoTB, as I only brought nwn2 to play online. What a waste of money that was. If Lisse Linath goes ahead, and IF it requires it MoTB to play ,then yeah, I'll buy it. As it is, I've gone back to playing the original NwN.

Yeah, I wanted it more for the multiplayer than singleplayer too. I was hoping they'd fix all the multiplayer issues with MotB. Ah well.

What's Lisse Linath?

[color=indigo:2m3p078r]It [i:2m3p078r]was[/i:2m3p078r] going to be our city of Eilistraee....don't know what happened with it, though. If you go to the Eilistraee Forum Index page, it should be the set of forums at the bottom.[/color:2m3p078r]

Ah, right. I've been looking forward to it too. Just didn't remember or know the name of your city.

Yeah, but the unlock Eilistraee thing still doesn't work quite right, I noticed it when a feat that Favored Soul should have had wasn't there.

I just picked Drow in the end, though I wanted to try Genasi .. I love Drow, but they're so damn hard to play in this game.

And to clarify, the new class problems are in the OC, I dunno bout MotB, i'm sure it'll randomly crash whenever I heal on every odd level, or turn windows pink.

I figured out the sound bug. 3D sound doesn't work with voices. Good thing I have an Audigy so I can use 90's quality sound processing.

Odd, I've had none of those problems with MotB, most of my issues are with modding (getting a custom TLK to work is driving me nutzo) and the two new classes (wow sorcerer takes on a Cleric and a Druid, neither of which and be fully implemented, cute.)

If I can just get that custom .tlk working both of my issues will be resolved.

I know there were problems with NWN2 not loading custom tlk files when the game was released, but I'd think they fixed that by now.

For the rest I'm not sure... are you placing it in the right directory? Are you adding the right number to the row number in the custom tlk? It's been ages since I did anything with tlks in NWN1, and I haven't looked at it yet in NWN2.

Do I have all of my numbers right? yes, I've checked and rechecked and checked again for good measure and every time I do I find something I missed, the issue however isn't that some things are missing, it's that ALL of the text is missing. I have a working Warmage but no fluff, how weird is that?

As for if the files are in the right places, your guess is as good as mine, MotB changed so much of how modules and mods work that every thing I can find is horrible confusing and doesn't seem to solve the issue, I'll keep banging my head against it until my mod works or until Darkkender finishes his Warmage mod and publishes it.

Though you’ve probably already seen them I did a quick search on the NWN2 forums for some information. Here’s some topics I found which might be useful.

Particularly the first one seems to have a good deal of information on how to get it working.

Anyway, hope that’s of some help.
