Veil of Madness

Post by Vorrick »

Vorrick hung at the edge of a clearing his wrists tied to trees on either side of him. The position and length of the ropes would have allowed him to stand but in his weakened state he could only hang limply his knees hovering an inch above the ground. Blood running into his eyes made it impossible to distinguish anything in the woods around him, only the fact the lash had ceased it's endless count accross his back let him know what time it was. For the first days, before he had recieved the cut on his forehead that leaked blood into his eyes, his captors had ceased their efforts only for 1 hour when the moon was at it's highest to pray to their goddess. Vorrick did not take solace in the respite as he knew it would end all too quickly.

For three weeks he had ben held like this; with his captors, four priestesses, taking turns administering his torture. They called it punishment, they called it just, but he knew they took pleasure in what they did. He could only imagine how he must look, his obsidian skin hiding most of the bruises, his back nothing more than a mass of cuts and welts from the lash. Were he a weaker man he would most likely have lost hope but he was Drow and the one thought that kept him from despair was knowing that these women had greatly underestimated who they were dealing with and when he got loose that he would ensure it took them YEARS to die.

Vorrick heard his captors approach and one of them, Illorya if he remembered correctly, bent down to his ear to whisper, "All you need do is repent and this will end. Admit your wrong doings and agree to walk the path our Lady intends for you."

Vorrick couldn't help but chuckle. Spitting the blood out of his mouth so it would not slur his speech he said, "You're going to wish you'd killed me, because when I get out of here I'm going to make sure you live just long enough to see everything you ever loved die."

Vorrick could not see her expression but he could feel her eyes trying to burn holes into him and smirked at the knowledge that he had gotten under her skin. His sense of accomplishment was short lived as he felt one of the priestesses throw a liquid on his back that smelt vaguely familliar. At first he felt nothing but then the pain, OH GODS the pain, ripped through him and despite is efforts for self control he howled, and in the distance he heard a wolf answer.

The joy of the hunt moving amoung the trees hunting perhaps a deer under the full moon. Then a howl is hread in the distance makng sure the hunt will be harder, but that seemed not to be of a true wolf even though a wolf answers it. There is only one choice now hunt the first voice heard that broke to silence. Moving swiftly but quietly travels torward the sound.

Nearing the clearing hears the words of the male and wonders if he can make them true with one habd released. 4 against one indeed a chance, but careful use of weapons might make it better. Checks to see the handbows are ready loaded, then raises his bow and aims the first arrow at the tope that ties the right arm to the tree, with luck it will hit the creature behind him as well. The second arrow is fired as well toward the next one nearest the Drow male. The handbows only to be used if the vile women draw closer to him.

The arrow easily cuts through the rope and would have hit the priestess behind Vorrick square in the chest had she not dodged at the last instant. The arrow hit her in the shoulder the impact throwing her off balance and knocks her to the ground. The second priestess was not as fortunate as the arrow hit her in the back. She fell to the ground either paralyzed or dead. The remaining two priestesse turn in the direction of the attack each casting a spell. They finish in unison one errecting a magic barrier and the other conjuring an orb of light over her head.

In the light of the orb you can see they are all Drow and that one appears to be wearing a holy symbol of Eilistraee. Searching the woods for the source of the attack the priestess wearing Eilistraee's symbol calls out, "Whoever skulks in these woods know that you have interfered in the affairs of the Priestesses of the Dark Maiden. Show yourselves and we shall be lenient."

Meanwhile as the priestess who was hit in the shoulder rises from the ground Vorrick quickly wraps his hand around her throat squeezing as tightly as his aching body can. Pre-occupied her companions do not hear her struggled breaths.

**OOC* Bhaern I leave the decision to you as to whether you shot to kill the second priestess **OOC**

The light raised only increasing the shadows he is hidding in. The spell easy to figure out, the other cursed Drow clearly did something, but that can only be tested. Even as he readies to fire the short bow again, considers all he has hread of the Drow Dark Maiden. The first arrow fires at the holy symbol and the second fire at the other Drow female.

Silently retreats in the shawdow to start to circle them. With good luck all of them are down, but odds are not that good. A shield might have been erected, he clearly would use one when light oneself as a traget.

It of course foolish to speak any reply to the vile Drow that can never be trusted in the first place.

Both shots bounce harmlessly against the barrier. Still oblivious to the plight of their companion the two priestesses scan the tree line. As the priestess not wearing Eilistraee's symbol begins another spell the other calls out again, "I will not ask again show yourself. We are worshippers of Eilistraee and mean you no harm, but this man you assist is a criminal and must be punished."

Behind them Vorrick had finally released the priestess' throat. He reached over her body and took her belt knife, not the best of weapons but it would suffice, taking careful note of the rise and fall of her chest. He was glad he had not killed her, whatever that liquid was she had put on him had made the welts and cuts on his back burn with such intensity he almost lost conciousness and he looked forward to subjecting her to the same.

Acting quickly he used the knife to free his left hand and used some of the rope to bind the priestess. As her friend called out to his unseen rescuer, he could tell by her voice it was Illorya Vorrick's lips pulled back in a wordless snarl.

[i:2baulj4m]Criminal am I, need to be punished do I, you'd be better off telling them my "crime", no doubt their laughter would both give away their position AND make them unable to act.[/i:2baulj4m]

Vorrick begins muttering an Eldritch invocation, the priestess standing with Illorya could be granted the mercy of a quick death but Illorya would suffer, after all Vorrick always kept his promises.

Droping the bow climbs up a tree, a bit of a risk in detection as the tree might sawy a little from the light breeze. Calls out in something close to Drow.

"Strangers friends, no black hearted Drow should die?"

Leaps from the tree to another. Perhaps their shield is fixed or perhaps time to end the game.

She was playing in the woods with a young pack of wolves, she turned at the sound of a howl that was not an animal's. Alaunavin was a drow of 96 years old. Yet she was pure drow she had long raven black hair with sparkling sapphire eyes. Her friend howled back as if to say help is on the way. So Alaunavin and her pack started for the spot where the howling was coming from.

Alaunavin thought to her self what would she do if there was real trouble when she got there. She just hoped that she could make it in time, as for that howling sound did not sit too well with her.

As she got near she smelt magic in the air, she growled and told the wolves to stay back. Alaunavin, took out her enchanted bow and jumped into the trees and jumped from one tree to the next to get a good site on what is going on. She did not want to just start shooting at who ever. She wanted to see who was who and what was going on. Alaunavin prayed she did not get in the way.

Completing his invocation Vorrick silently approachers Illorya's fellow priestess the knife in his hands seeming to glow as if reflecting the light of a fire.

Illorya notices sudden movement in the trees but dimisses it when she sees the same in another direction as birds startled from their perch. Besides if their hidden assailant intended to remain so he would want to be mobile not stuck in some tree.

Hearing him call out she directs the orb of light in that direction trying to catch a glimpse of him. "Yes there is no need for anymore death this night. Our quarrel is with this man who snuck upon one of our rituals and disrespected the priestesses of Eilistrae. We wish to end this peacefully, if you will not comeout will you at least speak your intentions?"

She slowly reaches down to her belt knife, the only weapon she seems to possess, and throws it to the side. It hits the barrier and falls to the ground well out of reach. Her companion does the same thing and then, thinking she hears her fallen companion stirring behind her, begins to turn to aid her.

Alaunavin arrives and perches on a branch high in the tree and watching what is going on below. Unsure who is good or bad she strings her bow and loads an arrow, slowly pulling back and picking a spot where no one is. As she aims she notices that several are Drow like herself and the abuse to one did not sit well and it angered her. He was the one who had howled, it was because he was in pain. A shadow up in the trees caught her attention. She was not sure if it was a friend or foe, but decided to launch the arrow between the Drow on the ground anyways.

The arrow whistled through the air and dug into the earth. She quickly moved to a different spot and careful not to be seen as she did. Waiting to see what would happen next she stays quiet and hides well in the shadows.

OOC: Vorrick I do see you are not well versed on Eilistraee dogma, we can discuss this later in another place.

IC:

Giving thanks to the birds looks toward the Drow from another tree. Perhaps what the Drow say is correct that those with Silverhair are insane. Throwing weapons away and not even aware of the male behind them. These re not heroines of the Dark Maiden. About deciding to let the Drow kill each other for theere evil starts to slide down the tree kumped to carefully, when the arrow of Alaunavin strikes before the shield barrier. Eyes turn to seek the new hunter. Searching sees a shadow that might be another insane Drow. Decides to wait an see, perhaps the new one will get the blame for his actions.

Alaunavin saw the barrier and smiled, nothing could stop her dispel arrows and thought best to stop this insanity by putting an arrow into the female Drow's. As she does believe in Eilistrass and does not believe this is right. Alaunavin places another arrow to her bow and pulls back, this time so the other dark figure can hear, chanted a spell upon her arrow. The arrow started to glow and was quite visible for him to see. She smiled as she watched the arrow flying through the barrier and into the leg of one of the females. There was no permenit damage and she will heal with ease. Alaunavin now sits and waits.

Mod comment: You should never post success against another target, you should only state intent and reason why attack should work.

The arrow is spelled to break the barrier and aimed to hit the leg of one of the females is much better.

Vorrick grinned as the priestesses threw away their weapons. Gods there almost making this too easy. His mirth was short lived as Illorya's companion began to turn towards him. Luckily the arrow hitting the barrier drew he attention away. Still trying to remain silent he continued towards his unsuspecting victim.

Illorya looked out into the woods searching for the source of that arrow. As she searched she suddenly saw a light amongst the trees. Just as she began to ready a spell to illuminate their attacker a second arrow came easily passing through the barrier, which became visible and shattered like glas, and striking Illorya in the leg. Her focus lost the spell is disrupted as she attempts to deal with the pain. As her companion comes to her aid Illorya catches sight of Vorrick swinging his knife towards her companion.

The suden shock of the arrow penetrating the barrier and the priestess' move towards Illorya caused him to miss his target. Knowing she could not have helped but notice his swing Vorrick quickly brings the knife back and strikes the hilt against her head knocking her unconcious. Looking down at Illorya his smile is evil and with blood still running into his eyes he looks like some horror from a child's nightmares.

Alaunavin looked to the Drow male, he looks quite bit beat upon, but he needs to be saved. But what he looks like he wants to harm them like they did him, she knows two wrongs do not make amends. So she stood up from where she sat, jumped down from the tree and ran through the barrier. She said, "Stop two wrongs do not correct a wrong. If they persist then I have just the thing to make them forget. Please," she looks at the blood all over him and can imagine these drow were making him suffer for some crime.

With out warning she was struck from behind, her eyes glowed as she turned and faced the one who had hit her. She grabbed her bow and swung it to stop another attack. Alaunavin was not going to give into her drow bloodline, she did not want to be same of her family. She made a loud and high howl to call for back up from her friends, Dash would be the first to show up....

Snapping out of his dark thoughts at the sound of this new voice Vorrick lowered the blade slightly. When the attacker appeared seemingly out of nowhere he turned to face it fully. Knowing in his weakened state he would be useless with nothing but a knife he dismissed the invocation he had placed on it and tosses it to Illorya.

Noticing the shocked expression on her face Vorrck says, "Nindol zhah naut phor tu'fyr udossa, plynn kyon d'dosst haru lu't'yin morfeth dosstan weafl." [This is not over between us, take care of your wound and then make yourself useful]. Turning his attention back to the Drow and her attacker Vorrick begins charging for his [url=http://nwn2.wikia.com/wiki/Eldritch_blast:aos5oyot]Eldritch Blast[/url:aos5oyot]. Just as he finishes he yells to the Drow, "GET DOWN!"

Alaunavin heard his voice to get down, she dropped to the ground as she saw what he was doing. She just made it with out getting hit by the blast.

In bout a hundred yards she saw Dash sprinting to her and the pack was not far behind. They all created a circle and started to growl at the wrong people, "Stop friends, I do not know who is friend or foe. Please watch the Priestesses and guard the drow male." she said.

Then gotten up and readied her bow and chanted a illuminating spell upon the arrow as it glowed brightly. Once finished she aimed high and released it when it reached bout a hundred feet in the air the arrow exploded with light as bright as the sun. Showing anything and no more surprises not for at least 5 mins she thought to herself...
