Maya was the second daughter of the Drow House of Arkenrae. However, as she grew up, it was clear to the Matron that the girl lacked the personality traits that would have made her a good Drow. Instead, the girl was optimistic and caring, even to the point of helping others without expecting something in return. As the young girl hit her teens, these traits only increased, and like any Drow would have done, the Matron intervened. Rather than becoming learned in the ways of the Clergy of Lolth, Maya was exiled to the surface world to get herself decently killed, and her father was sacrificed to Lolth in a slow and painful way.

Maya, when arriving on the surface world, squinted when she first stepped into the light of the sun. She managed to find cover, and waited for nightfall to walk around to get a feel for the area, aided by Circe, her pet spider that had accompanied her to the surface. Not being used to surviving on her own, let alone on the surface world, the first few weeks were hard on the Drow girl. Distrusted on sight by pretty much everyone and everything, her life became one of hiding, running and hiding some more while trying to gather food to survive.

The change came when she encountered a wolf that had been caught in a trap. Despite its waryness, it was half-dazed from pain, and couldn't do much but watch as Maya approach it. Taking out her dagger, she managed to open the trap, and healing the wound on the wolf's leg before the howls of its pack members made her retreat into the shadows again.

Still, the wolf had remembered what she had done for it, and helped her find food and shelter until her eyes were used to the brightness of the sun. In return, she helped where she could, though encounters with other races had proven to be... problematic to say the least. During talks with the wolves, she discovered they had named her Ix'Chimalxochitzin, and given that her old name would raise too many questions she decided to live by that name from then on.

Thanks, you've made me feel all welcome again... For the second time in less than a week, at that ^_^

On a sidenote, anyone care to point me to an RP that's still open for new people to join? There are a bunch of threads, but a number of them haven't seen any posts in quite a while, and others are several pages long so i'm not sure if joining would be appreciated (as they'd have to explain to my character at some point the majority of what happened thus far -- it can get annoying if it happens often enough)...

Basically, an RP that's active, preferably takes place on the surface (or at least they're there [i:20l8mphg]now[/i:20l8mphg]) and isn't too far along to mind a new person joining up ^^;

Anything in Freeflow is open to any to join. As you have noticed only a few are active right now. I would advise against trying to join anything that has not had a post within a week. Odds are for now such plays are waiting for another player to post.

Campaigns you need permission to join from the person that started the play.

Also you can start your own play and hope others will join to play.

Hmm, drow get proficiencies in the hand crossbow, rapier, and short sword.

Other then that, a nice overall character concept there. ;)

No Lolth society would allow a Drow child to do nothing for 100 years. In 2nd Edition Drow clearly were expected to fight and earn levels at a young age. Those that did not died.

Drow mature quicker or are dead. 3.X however did not really address the issue. 16 is a little young, but better then being dead at age 5.

Too true. My intent was to merely inform the OP that, if they were unaware, a 16 year old elf is not the same as a 16 year old human, and that she would still be a child both socially and physically. I had no wish to criticize their choice simply ensure they were aware of what it meant.

No offense taken, btw. ^^;

It's just that in my years of forum roleplaying, i've seen more flavors of Elf than i could possible care to count, and a good number of them had different aging systems.

Well... That, and it sounds weird to being breastfed until they're, like, 20 years old or something. I know most people would burst out laughing at that mental image.

Anyway, back on the topic... The general concensus i was used to just had them age like humans, after which they'd simply [i:3rpxkplh]stop[/i:3rpxkplh] aging, or do so at a very reduced pace in their late teens or early twenties, around when they're a full adult.

Thanks for the heads-up though... Think i should alter my age somewhat? The main problem being of course that i can't see how something a human takes one year to learn would take an elf ten, or have every elf on the continent be a multiclassed... well, [i:3rpxkplh]everything[/i:3rpxkplh] that can take on Elminster in their sleep, to name an example. Imagine a Drow with a couple of centuries of fighting experience under his belt, and explain to me why he shouldn't be Epic yet on a (non-Blooding) Raid.

As it is, Maya's lack of general knowledge (Pantheon (exception being Lolth, of course), surface world etc.) is part of her character. Being female, she ended up Exiled to the surface rather than executed, but she knows next to nothing apart from basic things like Lolth and spiders. She's just winging it on everything else.
